27th April

During this session we consolidated the grammar point 'used to'. We read some sentences and then explained those which applied to us. Then we thought about our childhood and compared it to our lives nowadays.
After that, we listened to Justin and Helen talking about an anecdote when they were children and the students answered the comprehension questions.
We continued the class explaining some tricks to use during the conversation and interactive phase in the exam.
We need to show interest, surprise and make the conversation going.
We can do so by repeating some of the words mentioned by the examiner, for example:

Examiner: Last night I saw a black horse in the park.
Candidate: A black horse?

Or we can add some expression of surprise: Really? Uh_huh, wow, yeah, yeah!

Or identify the main information in the speech to ask question about it.

Examiner: I'm really nervous about the exam.
Candidate: Why is the exam so important? When is the exam? What's the exam about?

Homework:Think about an anecdote when you were 10 years old. Be prepared to be asked more questions for information, or to show surprise and interest.

Then, we worked the vocabulary related to sports and played the "20questions" game.
To finish the class, we watched a video in which some people on the street were interviewed about the healthy lifestyle.
And finally, we thought about some some ideas related to health and fitness and then, raised some questions that the examiner might ask us in the conversation phase.

23rd March

Today we've talked about health and illness.
We started the class marking some expressions according to whether they were good or bad for our health. Then we read four short texts about what some people did to keep healthy and expressed our opinions about them.
To continue with this topic, we did a health quiz and talked about what we usually do to treat some illness. Then, we listened and checked if we were right or not (t.10.1).
After that,we completed some expressions with verbs and adjectives/nouns combination.
Then, we read an extract from a website and listened to a patient calling to a helpline to ask for advice for his problem (t10.2).
To consolidate the new vocabulary and structures, we did a role-play in which the students acted as doctors and patients.
We finally listened to other two patients talking about their problems and completed a dialogue with the missing words (t6.4)

16th March

We finished the topic talking about money and shopping reading a text about tipping in Britain and asnswering the comprehension questions.
Then, we started a new point of discussion:health and fitness. To start with, we did a questionnaire about healthy habits. The students answered the questions first, personally, and then, we listened to an expert giving the correct answers.
After  that, we expressed our opinions about the questionnaire and so, we could practise how to express surprise in English: I was surprised about...
Finally, we studied the grammar structure from this unit: first conditional.
Zero condtional is formed as follows: if+present/present
First conditional: if+present/future
We completed a grammar practice exercise, ad finally we did a personal list of ten pieces of advice to keep healthy.
